I got covid this week and it's fine, I just have a sore throat. But the real struggle is the lack of exercise. I knew that I wasn't completely fine with everything going on in my head, but I managed to keep the anxiety and stress under control when I was able to eat and exercise in the same way everyday like clockwork.
It has only been a couple of days and I'm already cutting off food and constantly checking on my appearance just so I can make sure my body doesn't change. I'm just so tired.
I'm so sorry to hear that you're sick right now. I know how difficult it can be to break with routines and behaviors that help us cope with the everyday––especially when the current circumstances are so out of the ordinary. It might feel like your "clockwork" eating and exercising is keeping you from engaging in behaviors, but if you feel like you need to stick to that rigid food and exercise schedule in order to hold it all together, that routine may be a form of ED behavior in itself. It can be super scary when we don't have our regular behaviors to hold onto anymore, but it can also be an opportunity to find other things that make us feel grounded! Maybe that's reaching out to some friends or family, spending time with a pet, discovering a new hobby, etc. I'm hoping that this tough time for you can help you release your grasp on old behaviors. Maybe quarantine will give you time to think about what it is you REALLY want––taking food and body out of the equation entirely. Because in the end, it's never about the behaviors themselves, but about the things we don't want to feel or think about, which we use behaviors to avoid.
