Summer in Minnesota is time that is well spent. Not one second of daylight is wasted. The boundary waters are explored, cabins are filled with laughter, and lakes are full of activity. But none of those things matter to an eating disorder.
June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) awareness month, and I believe it is important to consider the effect PTSD can have on recovery from an eating disorder.
For many, the thought of eating disorders may exclusively call to mind young, heterosexual, thin, white women. Unfortunately, it is a myth that eating disorders only affect a certain population of people. The reality is that eating disorders affect individuals of all ages, gender identities, sizes, races, and ethnicities.
